Melncoly organized a benefit concert to raise money and awareness for our brothers and sistas in Japan! We’ve collaborated with different artists throughout the years from JP. I really picked up on the empathy vibes the Universe was putting out. I couldn’t sit there anymore and not do anything. It was an amazing experience to come together collaboratively and send LOVE all the way to the stars!

Saturday, April 2, Calgary musicians, DJs and artists will get together at the Hi Fi Club for a benefit show that comes from the honest place of empathy.

Organized by local jewelry designer, artist and musician Melyssa Nielsen, the night will feature local acts such as Pioneer, Seizure Salad, The Remones, Free Nude Celebs and Wax Romeos donating their time and immeasurable skills in order to raise money for Japan relief.

Nielsen, who’s new at the entire concert promotion game but was inspired to do something when she saw friends and associates caught up in the devastation, was delighted but not really shocked at how willing everyone was to get onboard.

“Calgary has an amazing community,” says the born and raised Calgarian. ”I’ve seen artists come and go, but it’s still such a vital, vibrant community of artists and people. It’s been a really humbling experience to see how everyone is coming together and supporting this.”

“And the lineup is incredible — I’m so excited!” she continues. “You know how they say it just takes one person? It really does. It’s really blossomed into a bigger event and every band that’s involved is very passionate about raising money for Japan.”

$10 gets you in the door with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.

Local labels and artists have also donated their wares, with prints, T-shirts, albums, etc. being sold to up the money raised, and Steamwhistle has come onboard as a sponsor.

If that wasn’t enough, the entire evening will be kicked off and blessed by someone Nielsen describes as a “living goddess” — local musician Vi-An, who plays the Japanese harp, or koto.

“I wanted her to start off the show. She’ll basically clear the air of any negative energy and just really start it off right,” Nielsen says before reiterating the benefit comes from an incredibly genuine place.

“We have it so good here in Calgary,” she continues. “And to see so many things happening in this world right now, I just wanted to do something nice.”

So. You do, too. Do some nice and check out some superb local talent at the same time.

Now that’s a pretty good feeling.
